When you begin writing, you are directed to thePencil writing platform that allows you two options:
- Create your manuscript: You can directly write on the writing platform on Pencil. It allows you to input important sections of the book, format and edit your writing, have an overview of your updated draft, and even make notes on the side to access when necessary. Your draft is automatically saved and can be accessed by you anytime.

Before moving on to the next step, make sure you edit your manuscript as thoroughly as possible. You can use various self-editing techniques, or even avail Pencil’s Professional Editing services for a nominal fee as well.
3. Add Book Information
Here, you are required to input essential details about your book that will go into the book and will help market it after publishing. These details include title, author, subtitle, genre, sub-genre, back blurb, and keywords.
Out of all these details, make sure to give enough attention to crafting the back blurb and in choosing the keywords. These will attract interested readers and help market your book to the right audience. Additionally, pay attention to your title as well since a good title will ensure that readers look through your blurb.
While crafting the keywords, remember that these will be providing information that is additional to your title and book description. Be concise in delivering the relevant words that will help readers find your book based on their interests.
4. Design a Book Cover
Pencil provides you with three options in going ahead with a book cover:
- Upload a book cover of your own: You will have to upload one that will fit the 5×8 dimension
- Use a cover from one of the available ready-to-use beautiful free templates on the platform
In either of the two cases, the spine and the back blurb will be auto-generated to fit within the chosen cover. Moreover, you can:
- Avail Pencil’s Premium Designing services for a nominal fee
